Finca Abril is a small, family-run estate in Mendoza's Uco Valley, founded in 1996 around a parcel of vines that have been there since 1922 — over 3,400 feet up in the Andean foothills, where cold nights and dry air do the work modern winemaking sometimes overdoes. The Alhambra is the entry into the range: certified organic single-vineyard Malbec, hand-harvested, fermented in stainless tanks, with a portion aged in French oak and the rest left to rest in tank. The mountain elevation shows up in the glass — ripe but lifted, plush but not heavy. A serious Malbec for the price of a casual one.
