Mugnier's Musigny is one of Burgundy's most coveted bottles, full stop. Frederic farms around 1.13 hectares at the heart of the Grand Cru — the second-largest holding after Vogüé — and the wine is the apex of his quietly perfectionist style: silken, ethereal, almost weightless yet endlessly layered. 2014 is a classical, fine-boned vintage that has come to be appreciated as a sleeper, all chiseled red fruit, rose petal, and chalky drive rather than flash. Concentration is there, but it's wrapped in lightness of touch and a long, penetrating finish. A bottle to cellar deep and pour for true believers.
